Wife of veteran actor and now, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has expressed her readiness to support her husband in his bid to serve the constituents.
As it is said, behind every successful man, is a supportive and virtuous woman, and such is what, Gift Dumelo, wife of Hon. John Dumelo, is aspiring to be for her husband.
Gifty made this nice and supportive comments during the inauguration ceremony of President John Dramani Mahama, on Tuesday January 7, 2025. Speaking to Pulse Ghana, she declared her unwavering support to supporting her husband, by directing her focus on empowering women and children in the constituency. She said, that this move will ensure that the workload on her husband will be eased, to allow him to tackle other issues within the constituency.
Addressing Pulse Ghana, she said, “I am very excited for him. This is a new journey, and we are all excited for him. I think I will focus on women and children because I am very passionate about that. It’s a way to take off some of his workload and support him.”
John Dumelo, together with fellow newly elected Members of Parliament were sworn in, under the leadership of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt.Hon. Alban Kingsford Bagbin, on January 7, 2025, after the dissolution of the 8th Parliament.
Contesting on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dumelo came out victorious after what had been a very vigorous and heated contest, over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Lydia Seyram Alhassan, to represent Ayawaso West Wuogon.
The victory which saw Dumelo amass total votes of 47,560, as compared to Alhassan’s 39, 214 votes, marked a significant political achievement and shift in the constituency, which is tagged as the stronghold of the NPP.
This however, was his second attempt, lost to Alhassan in 2020 general elections.
